Outside-the-box art classes — from designing skateboard deck graphics to delving into the whimsical world of caricatures — will be hosted by the Haywood County Arts Council in June.

The classes are for ages 12+, and are conveniently timed just as school gets out for summer.

Skateboard Deck Design

Join instructor Clay Sayre for an exciting journey into the world of skateboard design in the Skateboard Deck Design class, for ages 12-plus. The four sessions will be 10 a.m.-noon, Tuesday-Friday, June 4-7, at the Folkmoot Center in Waynesville.

Students will delve into the fundamentals of skateboard design, exploring graffiti fonts and appliques to create unique and personalized skateboard decks. Throughout the process, participants will utilize a myriad of skills, materials and techniques to bring design ideas to life.

Class cost is $125 and the wooden skateboard decks are included.

Drawing Caricatures

Dive into the whimsical world of caricature drawing in the Drawing Caricatures class led by artist and instructor Clay Sayre, from 10 a.m.-noon Monday, June 10, at the Folkmoot Center, Waynesville. Participants, ages 12-plus, will embark on a journey to master the basics of caricature drawing, including simplification, distortion and exaggeration techniques.

From inking to adding color, students will explore various mediums and techniques while honing their sense of humor and basic drawing skills. Attendees will be using pencil and ink, as well as soft pastels.

This is an opportunity to bring laughter to life on paper. Class is $25.
