Kathy Goodson, Purple Iris, 2001, 37″x47″, silk painting

I am inspired by the natural beauty of WNC. When I first started silk painting almost 20 years ago, I decided that I had to learn to forgive my “mistakes” (bleeding, non-straight lines, etc.) and learn to love each piece; then I could either give it away or sell it. As Picasso said, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” I create my art because it brings me great joy. Each day is a new adventure for me with my art. I start with no preconceived ideas of what works. I bring to this art an enormous willingness and a beginner’s mind. I believe in interacting with the painting process and love to let the dye and silk create then lead me.
