You may know the Haywood County Arts Council as a gallery where you can admire and purchase local art. But we’re so much more!
We’re a vibrant community of individuals who believe in the power of creativity to forge connections, bring joy, and inspire each other, and that means that whether you’re a novice eager to explore the world of creativity, a life-long art enthusiast, or even a seasoned professional, we have something special in store for you.
We’re committed to bringing you a wide range of classes and workshops suitable for all ages and skills. Are you ready to embark on a journey of imagination and enjoyment? Look no further than our Creation Classes! Whether you are a parent seeking an engaging and educational outlet for your child, or an individual yearning to continue your artistic voyage while forming new friendships, we have you covered. “Inside each and every one of us lies a creative voice, and our classes provide a nurturing and welcoming environment in which to experiment with a diverse range of media,” affirms Tonya Harwood, Executive Director of HCAC.
Whether you want to learn watercolor techniques, improve your drawing skills, or explore the captivating world of sculpture landscapes, we have something for everyone. Joan Doyle, the esteemed teacher of our popular watercolor classes, says, “I have been told that I can turn non-artists into artists. However, I believe that deep down, we all have a five-year-old with a crayon waiting to come out. The key is to silence the critical voice we’ve acquired over the years and let that inner child play!”
We’re actually good for your health. Did you know that immersing yourself in creative activities can have real health benefits? It’s true! Studies have shown that engaging in art can alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression, while promoting mindfulness and relaxation. Clay Sayre, an artist member and instructor, emphasizes the importance of expressing creativity for mental health, stating, “It allows us an outlet that cannot be obtained in any other way.” So why not seize this opportunity to embark on a journey of self-discovery as you tap into your creative side?
We want to meet you! One of our newest programs is our monthly Artist Morning Meetup, a casual gathering where you can meet fellow art enthusiasts and exchange ideas. Each month, we discuss topics such as finding the best art supplies, leveraging social media for promoting your work, and even the art of time management—because, let’s face it, we all need a little help in that department!
