John Gilbert has a solid background in graphic design and painting. He has experimented with the major media – oils, pastels, pen and ink and watercolor – and finds watercolor his favorite. A graduate of The Florida State University with a BA in Fine Arts, Gilbert presents his work in galleries, in juried shows and in plein-air events. In so doing, he has the pleasure of meeting new and old friends who mentor his skills.

He loves to paint ‘en plein aire’. “My objective is to catch a moment of changing light and to find interesting patterns, contrasts in shapes, values and color and make these elements work together. I try to keep my paintings simple in composition, to convey a mood and to relate to the viewer.”
