Join the “art party” of Art After Dark in downtown Waynesville, with galleries and shops open late, live music filling the air, and artists showcasing their talents from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.

The monthly art stroll is presented by the Haywood County Arts Council, which times opening night for its new monthly exhibit to coincide with Art After Dark.

“We love to be part of Art After Dark and to celebrate the incredible talent of our local artists,” says Tonya Harwood, Executive Director of the Haywood County Arts Council. “It’s a night to appreciate the arts, connect with fellow art lovers, and experience the rich culture that makes Waynesville so special.”

This Friday, the arts council will host an opening reception for the new exhibit Kaleidoscope: An Exploration of Color and Shapes at The Haywood Handmade Gallery. See a live demonstration by acclaimed fiber artist Susan Schmidt as she creates intricate macramé art, providing a rare glimpse into her creative process.

“I love what I do, and I have fun every day. My favorite project is always the one I’m working on. I believe everything can be summed up like this: there’s a beginning, a middle, an end, and then there’s wine!” said Schmidt.

Alongside this artistic experience, guests can enjoy complimentary refreshments and wine as they explore the gallery.
