My husband and I am our three dogs moved up here a few years ago from the coast of North Carolina, where we had lived for the past 30 years. We are now in our “new” forever home!
Making things has always been my passion even as a little girl. I have been creating sculptures and functional pieces with clay since my college days. I earned my BFA at Converse College in South Carolina. I also enjoy painting, stained glass, jewelry making, and sewing soft sculptures.
However, clay is my medium of connection—to the earth, to history, and to the quiet rhythm of making. Each piece begins as a raw, malleable lump, shaped by hand through coil and slab construction. I embrace the imperfections: in the carefully slab constructed sculpture, in the subtle wobble of a coil bowl, in the slight asymmetry of a hand-built vase. These characteristics are not flaws; they are evidence of a human touch.
My work explores the tension between function and sculpture. A mug should feel comfortable in the hand; a plate should invite touch. But I also want each form to whisper stories—of the minerals in the glaze, of the kiln's fire, of the patience required to create, dry, bisque, and glaze. Surface decoration, whether carved, impressed, layered with underglazes, finished with simple glazes or glaze combinations— reflects my fascination with texture and time.
When I create pet memorial sculptures, I strive to capture the favored memories of beloved creatures.
Ultimately, I make pots for everyday rituals: morning coffee, shared meals, a single flower on a windowsill. I hope my sculptures beckon you to contemplate. In a fast world, ceramics slow us down. Clay creations ask us to hold, to notice, to observe, and sometimes, to remember. I hope my work brings a moment of grounded presence into your home.
