Double Take, Broomcorn and Nylon String
Each broom I make is handmade with intention under the moonlight of the Appalachian mountains, on the stolen ancestral lands of the Cherokee people. The design of each broom is based on the phase the moon is in on the day that they are created. Depending on what sign the moon is in, I work in the lucky numbers of that sign into each broom, whether that be represented in how many bundles I use, how many advances I add in or how many times I tie the broom. This allows for each broom to be unique.
I was drawn to broom making because of its connectivity to the human experience. Early civilizations around the world learned how to make brooms with whatever grew native to their lands. Sadly, this has become a lost art in many places, so it feels important to me to continue this ancestral practice.
In addition to broom making, I dabble in other art forms such as quilting, crochet, collage, herbalism, and many more.
