I was born and raised in Rhode Island in 1948, ambling through the 50's and 60's doing typical kid stuff. I got interested in art in high school, where my neighbor was the art teacher, a person of some note in R.I. A year after graduating, I was drafted. After my service, I continued my education at RI College, studying art and psychology, and took night courses at RISD while working in Providence.
In 1978, I left RI and met up with friends who had moved to Key West, where I spent 23 years, often with some art project going — resort work, special events, silk screening t-shirts with my designs, murals, or painting tropical subjects.
I returned to RI to reconnect with family and began entering art festivals, donating art for fundraisers like "Save the Bay" and the "PBS Art Auction." A reproduction I did for an annual "Fakes and Forgeries" show in Newport inspired me to start a series of street scenes, which I still enjoy today.
My wife was born in NC, and after visiting her sister in Maggie Valley, we fell in love with the area.
I always find something in my environment that inspires me — sea life and cityscapes. Here in NC, I continue following those interests, driven by the same personal challenge that has followed me to this day.
