His representational abstract paintings begin with close observation of landscapes, focusing on the cracks, edges, textures, and shifting planes found in mountains, rock and other natural elements. Through layering, scraping, subtraction, and impasto, Darren builds surfaces that become records of history. His paintings invite viewers to slow down, look closer, and discover what is revealed in the moments we might otherwise overlook.
His primary medium is people. When he’s not painting in his home studio in Maggie, you can find him inspiring students to find their artistic voice as confident artists. He’s also probably hiking some breathtaking landscape and meeting strangers on the trail.
