Ron grew up in the Deep South. He has engineering degrees from Georgia Tech and University of Florida. Ron’s technical background was the basis for a career in missile design and development while working for NASA, the US Navy and Draper Laboratory.
In semi-retirement, Ron and his wife Joyce relocated to Waynesville about 10 years ago. It was a choice between mountains and seashore. The mountains and they have never looked back
Ron’s interest in photography began over 50 years ago with a Twin Lens Reflex camera and a darkroom in the family bathroom. Photography has always driven the selection of family vacation locations. Ron has also been active in competitions at local camera clubs; in display and sale of photographic prints at wildlife festivals. Ron is a member of the Carolina Nature Photographers Association and the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.
Now that digital photography is the order of the day, Ron finds the Western North Carolina Mountains a perfect foil for “shoot-it-large” landscape photography. Wildlife and western landscapes also continue to fascinate, calling Ron back every year or two.
With a darkroom no longer needed, Ron does his own inkjet printing including the ability to print up to 24” wide on canvas. Ron does most of his own mat cutting and frame making using professional tools and materials.
